DOROTHEA APOVNIK KUNSTHANDEL FINE ART GmbH was established in 2013. It is enthusiasm for art and for people that is at the basis of my work. In my art consultancy, in brokering and selling artworks, my focus is on competency, expertise and professionalism as it is on providing the best possible personalized service to my clients.

The art on offer for the most part comprises paintings by Old Masters and from the 19th century, with occasional 20th century pieces adding to the mix.

All works are carefully examined and processed with regard to art-history issues as well as all material, technical, and conservatorial matters. This made it possible, for example, to rediscover a painting showing Christ as Savior which had been completely painted over and could be identified as being by, and adding to the known oeuvre of, the great Flemish Renaissance master Jan Sanders van Hemessen.

Aside from private collectors, my clients also include art institutions, among them the Austrian Gallery Belvedere and the Liechtenstein Princely Collections.

Biography

Art, literature, and music have been my central interests from my early youth. During my studies of art history in Vienna, I gathered first working experience as a gallery assistant at the Galerie Hubert Winter, Vienna, and in journalism. I then went on to work as a research assistant, exhibition manager, and press officer at the Kunsthalle Krems (1993–1997). I subsequently became head of the press department at the MAK – Austrian Museum of Applied Arts/Contemporary Art (1997–2001). From 2001 until 2012 I was in charge of the department of press and public relations at the Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt, and from 2006 my responsibility was extended to also represent the Städel Museum and the Liebieghaus Skulpturensammlung under Max Hollein as director. My wish to start something new led me to found Dorothea Apovnik Kunsthandel Fine Art in 2013.
